Best of Books: with a twist!
I’m doing a twist on my year-end, best-of-books piece. Perhaps it’s because no books jumped out at me in 2025. I had a challenging year, so maybe it was me and not the books. However, in a delightful twist, I began reading plays; something I never thought I’d do.
In the spirit of new energy and expanding one’s creativity, I challenge you all to read a play. Follow your reading by seeing it live or watch online. It’s a different experience than reading a book, and one full of sensory expansion that explores the human experience.
The top 4 plays I read in 2025:
Doubt: A Parable: a play about morality, trust, and power in a Catholic school setting
Night Mother: a mother and daughter spend the evening discussing suicide, life, purpose, and relationships
Death of a Salesman: this play tackles aging, truth, success, identity, betrayal, and the American Dream
A Raisin in the Sun: a family drama about racism, hypocrisy, poverty, and the American Dream
Full disclosure, these particular plays are serious drama. They make you think, re-evaluate your identity, and push you emotionally and intellectually. Well worth the time to both read and see them.
Read a play. See a play. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Quotes for the Soul!
“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”
“A dramatist is one who believes that the pure event, an action involving human beings, is more arresting than any comment that can be made upon it.”
Thanks for reading. Creativity is not a command performance, but I hope you’ll stay and become inspired. If you know someone interested in creative endeavors, please forward this on!
